What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob You've either lost your Nissan keyfob, or it has stopped working. Before you contact the dealership or panic, trace your steps to check where you had it last. It's easy to replace the battery on the key fob of your Nissan. It may seem daunting at first but you'll soon get grasp of it quickly. Smart Keys Keys The key fob that came with your Nissan is an important component of the car's advanced keyless entry system. It communicates with the vehicle's electronic systems to unlock doors or start the engine, and it has a convenient design that's easy to carry around. Key fobs also come with convenience features, such as the lockout protection feature that ensures you won't accidentally leave the vehicle without keys inside. In contrast to previous models of key fobs which required you to insert the key in the ignition slot to access the vehicle's onboard systems smart keys function wirelessly. Nissan detects when you enter your vehicle and activates the Intelligent Key's internal functions. You may need to replace the batteries on your Nissan Intelligent Key fob if it isn't functioning properly. Most fobs have CR2025 or CR2032 batteries. Instructions for changing the batteries are available in the owner's manual. Intelligent Key Fob Nissan Intelligent Key Fobs permit you to open the doors of your vehicle and start the engine with one touch. It also allows you to activate a set of presets to meet your needs such as changing the mirrors and seat for maximum comfort. You can control the music on your smartphone so that you don't need to leave your car. Intelligent Key Fobs come with an antenna built-in which sends signals to your vehicle whenever you hit a button or walk towards it. When the vehicle receives this signal it is activated for locking and unlocking doors, starting the engine, or opening the trunk. To test the fob out remove yourself from your car and click on the buttons. If the lights flash or the horn sounds sound, you have successfully programmed the Intelligent Key Fob. To do this, you must remove the key hidden in the lock and access the battery compartment of your key fob. Remove the battery that was in it, then insert a new one in its place. Make sure the positive side of the new one is facing the same direction that the previous one did. Finally shut the battery compartment and return the hidden key to its hidden place inside the case. Remote Start Nissan remote start is a feature that permits drivers to cool or warm their car from outside the vehicle, provided they are within operating range. The ignition of the vehicle is activated by pressing an appropriate button on a key fob or smartphone application. The remote start system could also engage climate control, allowing the driver to choose their preferred temperature. Some systems offer two-way communications that allows the driver know what's happening in their vehicle. If your car's remote start feature isn't working, the main cause is low battery power. Lockout Protection Lockout protection helps eliminate the nuisance of lockouts that are caused by the impedance relay failing. A special module inside the power control unit monitors the activity of the impedance relay, and shuts off the output. This feature is only available for vehicles that have the Smart Key system or through the vehicle personalization menu. Many serious accidents have occurred due to machines started to run when it was supposed to be completely off for maintenance or repairs. These accidents are often caused by stored energy that isn't properly released. Lock-out tag-out (LOTO) systems can prevent these accidents by making sure that machines are off until a person authorized releases them. The LOTO system is comprised of a variety of locks, tags, and other devices that are used to isolate, secure the device from an electric source. All “affected”, “authorized”, and “qualified” personnel must be trained on the use of lockout and tagout devices. These devices include but are not restricted to chains, locks, padlocks, wedges, adapter pins, and self-locking fasteners. Each device is clearly identified and labeled with the date and time of application and the name of the person who is authorized to use it and the reason for the lockout/tag-out (repair maintenance, repair, etc.). It must be clear that these devices can't be removed until a thorough LOTO procedure has been followed.
